Q: Where can I use Passport?
A: Passport will work at any office or location that uses Envoy at their front desk. Note that if you see “Envoy Passport is offline” on the iPad for any reason, you will not be able to sign in using Passport. Please have the receptionist contact Envoy support for help.
Q: Who can use Passport?
A: Passport is available for supported iOS and Android phones.
Q: How does the iPad detect my Passport?
A: Envoy iPads recognize Passport using Apple’s iBeacon technology. Since Bluetooth low energy (BLE) is the underlying communication method for iBeacons, you’ll need to enable Bluetooth on your iPhone or Android phone.
Q: What if I don’t enable Bluetooth on my phone?
A: Without Bluetooth, the iBeacons will not “see” you, so you will not be able to sign in using Passport.
Q: Won’t Bluetooth drain my battery?
A: This is a common misconception, but today’s Bluetooth technology, known as Bluetooth low energy (BLE), is different than the outdated “classic” Bluetooth. BLE draws very little power and will have minimal impact on your phone’s battery life.
